Most beat battles and producer showcases are taylored to industry professionals. But how would a general party crowd respond? B.L.A.P. (Beats Love Alcohol Party) was created to answer that question. Take four producers - a couple of known veterans and a few undiscovered talents, put them in front of a party and tell them to play their beats - its that simple. What separates B.L.A.P. from similar events is its casual nature. There is no stage and patrons are encouraged to dance. For the party goer unaware of the scene it becomes a new experience. For the industry pro, the laid back atmosphere provides a more comfortable arena to network & find their next hit producer. Created by Illmind, the producer for artists like 50 Cent, Redman, & The Jabbawockeez (ABDC's 1st season champs) who knows who will show up for this event series. Soon enough, everyone will know at B.L.A.P. - the MPC becomes the turntable.

B.L.A.P.!!!!

Here's a little clip of Illmind as he discusses the BLAP event and lets you know a little bit of what goes down at these events. I've attended maybe the last 3 or 4 last BLAPS showcases and have yet to be let down. The last one with featured guest producer Ayatollah was especially crazy. If you like new, good music from up and coming producers, and noteworthy producers for that matter, BLAPS is definitely the spot you wanna check out every other Thursday of the month. And if you're an aspiring producer, even better for y'all. Even for emcees, such as myself, it's a good way to hear the newest, freshest stuff first and network. Check it and leave one.

Throwback of the Day: Prince - Do Me Baby

Taking it a little further back with this throwback, specifically 1981, I decided to pick Prince - Do Me. I came across this joint today and was diggin' it until the end... The talking and moaning part at the end is hilarious!! Shit is downright ridiculous what this dude be sayin'. Like "well isn't it supposed to take a long time?.." or "Help me baby..." (both in Prince's high-pitched sultry? voice) LOL. The music itself though is great which is why I picked it as my Throwback of the Day. Definitely a gem from Prince's collection of works. Kind of reminds me of an older version of Maxwell here. Check it and leave one. Info below.

"Do Me, Baby" is a Prince ballad, the third and final U.S. single from his 1981 album, Controversy. With a running time of almost eight minutes, it is the longest track on the album.

Sung in Prince's falsetto vocals, the soulful track has a distinctive bass guitar line, and is dominated by heavy keyboards and piano. The song is a seductive romp, and honed the artist's signature style with slow-burning numbers. The song features screams and yells of passion by Prince, and a spoken seduction at the end. This song is also notable for the famous, trademark high note at 3:24. It would become a standard of many tours and would often be extended to "tease" the audience. The B-side was fellow Controversy track, "Private Joy". Despite improving upon the hugely popular slow jam approach of Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass and others, the single didn't chart until a remake of the song by R&B singer Meli'sa Morgan went to number one on the R&B charts, and number forty-six on the Hot 100 in 1986. [1] The main reason for Prince's version not charting is because it was a promotional airplay single and was not for sale; this was probably one the earliest examples of an airplay single, a kind of single that would prove very popular in the 1990s. "Do Me Baby" received moderate airplay on R&B stations, but since there were no airplay charts at the time, it was ineligible to chart.

Throwback of the Day: Notorious B.I.G. - Miss You

So I had Pac as yesterday's throwback of the day so I thought I might as well put the Notorious B.I.G. on today. One of the biggest hip hop influences ever to touch the mic, Biggie was probably one of the biggest emcees in the game when I was growing up. Literally. But Biggie shed his tough and oversized exterior in this heart-felt track about a lost homey. 112 chimes the hook in on a smooth, laid back instrumental orchestrated by producer/DJ Kay Gee, who also was the original DJ for NJ's own Naughty By Nature. The loop that Kay Gee freaked is a sample from Diana Ross' 1984 song Missing You, an ode to the late great Marvin Gaye written by Lionel Richie. Richie actually even got co-songwriter credits for the this track. Another one of my favorites from a fallen great.. Check it and leave one

Hey Lebron, Welcome to New York

Thought I'd throw this up on the blog for anybody who hasn't read this article yet. Me and probably all Knickerbocker fans hopes that Lebron reads this and takes these reasons into consideration and comes to the Big Apple next year. One more win from the Boston Celtics and we're in business. Here goes the link via nymag.com.

Throwback of the Day: 2pac - Dear Mama

So in light of Mother's Day this past Sunday and my mom being out in the Philippines, I decided to make this track my throwback of the day. Off his third solo album, Me Against The World, "Dear Mama" is an ode to Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur, who can also be caught in the beginning of the video flipping through an old photo album. The track was produced by Tony Pizarro and contains a sample off of acclaimed jazz musician Joe Sample's "In All My Wildest Dreams". Pac lets it all out and conveys his gentler side on this heart-felt track about his mother. Loved the feel of this one right here and still do. Check it and leave a comment.

New Video: Alicia Keys - Unthinkable

Throwback Of The Day : Raphael Saadiq - Still Ray

I'm gonna try to throw one of these up on the blog daily. New addition to the Verb blog is my "Throwback of the Day". The first installment to this is Raphael Saadiq's "Still Ray". Off his first solo album, the 2002 release Instant Vintage, I believe this was his second single coming after the joint with D'Angelo. Sampling Dre's Still D.R.E. piano chords and adding a little brass, Saadiq's old school way of songwriting blends well with the overall vibe of the song. I used to love this joint right here. Check it and leave one.

BrandUn Deshay - Letter to God

I actually heard this joint about 2 months ago and automatically felt it off the bat. The beat is crazy and deshay's flow suits it pretty well. Off the "Volume: Three! To Get Ready" mixtape thats droppin' in a couple weeks. Props to the kid.

Somewhere In Brooklyn

Bruno Mars has a new joint circulating around entitled "Better In Brooklyn". You probably know him as the guy who's singing the hook on the smash "Nothing On You". This one here is different but I can dig it. Peep it and tell me what you think. Youtube it or mp3 player below.

New Video: R.A.W.- "The Illest" and "The Intro"

Now it's about time this dude put these up on the net. I've been waitin' on these so I could post them up on the blizzy. "Hello world, meet R.A.W." This man is a problem!! These two videos are the first off the "The Meal Ticket" mixtape set to be released in the summer '10. Me and R.A.W. also have a mixtape in the works entitled "Rated R" which we also plan to release sometime this year. My partner in rhyme, New Brunswick resident R.A.W.(ready and willin) is probably one of the illest emcees I've came across in while. Real, rugged flows complimented by a demonstrative vocal styling and lyricism is what makes him stand out in this overcrowded hip hop game. And dude got a good head on his shoulders. When he and I met, I knew it was gonna be a problem. So peep the videos and leave some feedback. Good shit my dude. Word up. NJ stand up!!!
